Setting up a Laboratory in Singapore
There is definitely a lot more to look out for when setting up an office with a lab component as compared to a normal office set-up. Wondering what should you look out for when tasked to oversee the setting up of a new laboratory?
The first step of setting up a laboratory would be finding the space.
What should you look out for in finding a lab space?
You should be looking for buildings that allow R&D and lab usage. Once you check for allowable usage, make sure the building has the specifications you require before signing a lease. Common laboratory requirements to look out for are :
- Power supply – what is the minimum power supply required for your equipment?
- Ventilation – do you need windows that can be opened?
- Exhaust – do you require an outlet for fumes?
- Water supply – do you require running water? If so, check if there is an inlet and a floor trap for water drainage.
The above can be found under building specifications. If you don’t know the answer to one or more of the above points, look for a lab specialist to guide you through your laboratory fit-out. It is also important to differentiate between must-have and good-to-have specs, so that you do not end up limiting your options.
Some of our top building choices for labs are Tai Seng Exchange, Biopolis and Singapore Science Park. Alternatively, you can get in touch with us to help you with your office search!
