The Quadrant at Cecil

19 Cecil St, Singapore 049704

Nestled at the corner of Cecil Street and Market Street in the heart of Singapore’s Raffles Place financial district, The Quadrant at Cecil is one of the city-state’s most distinguished heritage landmarks. This striking five-storey Art Deco building — instantly recognisable for its elegant curved frontage and neo-classical symmetry — stands as a proud reminder of colonial-era Singapore, seamlessly integrated into one of Asia’s most dynamic business districts.

Built in the 1930s, The Quadrant at Cecil has a storied history deeply tied to Singapore’s past. It originally served as the regional headquarters of the Kwangtung Provincial Bank, founded by T.V. Soong — brother-in-law of Chinese revolutionary Dr. Sun Yat-Sen — and was used as a conduit to raise funds for the anti-colonial and anti-Japanese movement in the mid-20th century. The building survived World War II and has since been recognised as an important piece of Singapore’s architectural and cultural heritage.

The Quadrant has retained much of its old-school charm. Currently it houses a restaurant called Barrel on its lower floors and offices on the upper floors. The Quadrant enjoys a prime location in the Central Business District (CBD), just 5 minutes from Raffles Place MRT.

Raffles Place is at the heart of the Central Business District (CBD) in Singapore. Major businesses choose to be located here, as it brings them closer to the pulse of business activity in Singapore. Some of the tallest commercial buildings and landmarks of the city are located in this district. The density of the working crowd created a vibrant night scene around the area, with numerous bars, pubs and restaurants integrated in the office buildings and along the nearby shophouse areas.

Raffles Place is well connected via both the East West MRT Line and the North South MRT Line. Retail malls, restaurants, cafes, bars and various amenities such as gyms and banks are also located in the area to cater to the working crowd.
